Gebr. Weiss

ebrüder Weiss Ltd. has advanced its logistics operations with a fully automated warehouse in Hungary, developed with Jungheinrich. The solution improves efficiency, addresses labour shortages, and provides scalable, high-capacity storage to meet growing demand.

In response to increasing logistics complexity and workforce challenges, Gebrüder Weiss Ltd. has successfully deployed a state-of-the-art automated warehouse at its Páty logistics centre. This investment represents one of Hungary’s largest autonomous warehousing projects, featuring a fully automated very narrow aisle (VNA) high-bay system with a capacity of 28,000 pallet spaces.

The facility integrates six Jungheinrich EKX 516a Mobile Robots, which operate autonomously to handle storage and retrieval tasks with precision and efficiency. These robots eliminate repetitive manual processes, significantly reducing labour dependency while ensuring consistent operational reliability.

With storage heights reaching up to 10 metres and a throughput capacity of up to 120 pallets per hour, the system maximises space utilisation and supports high-volume operations. Seamless integration between automated and manual zones ensures smooth workflows, with advanced sensors and warehouse management system (WMS) interfaces enabling real-time data exchange and process control.

The implementation was carried out in phases during ongoing operations, demonstrating careful planning and adaptability. Beyond operational improvements, the project has enhanced workforce capabilities by shifting employee roles toward higher-value tasks and technical expertise.

Sustainability is also a key focus, with renewable energy solutions such as photovoltaic systems supporting warehouse operations and electric vehicle fleets. Looking ahead, Gebrüder Weiss plans to expand automation further, particularly in raw material handling and internal logistics optimisation.
