Stage electric forklift battery

How do I maintain the battery of my electric forklift?

When purchasing an electric forklift truck, more than purchasing is involved. The electric forklift takes its energy from a battery (also called traction battery) and this battery must be maintained.

Do you have an electric forklift truck with traction battery, but you do not know exactly how to maintain it? Then follow this simple checklist for daily and weekly maintenance for the battery of your electric forklift.

Jungheinrich has two types of electric forklift trucks, namely an electric forklift truck with a traction battery and an electric forklift truck with lithium-ion battery. A lithium-ion battery requires no maintenance. Do you have an electric forklift with a traction battery? Then you must maintain the battery daily and weekly.

Daily traction battery maintenance checklist

  1. Do not attempt to discharge the battery more than 80%.
  2. Before charging, disconnect the battery from the truck and open the battery compartment cover or door.
  3. Connect the battery to the charger and switch on the charger.
  4. When the charger indicates that the charge has ended, switch off the charger and disconnect the battery from the charger.
  5. Reconnect the battery to the truck.

Weekly traction battery maintenance checklist

  1. Check the electrolyte level of the battery. Top up with demineralised water if the level is below the hive in the cell.
  2. Top up to the wide part of the hive. Do not top up too high.
  3. Always top up after charging while the battery is still up to temperature. Also with automatic filling system.
  4. Keep the battery clean and dry.
  5. Remove corrosion and the plastic coated steel container or poles.
