Automation for medium-sized companies: August Weckermann relies on Jungheinrich

Automated small parts warehouse (AS/RS) as the heart of optimized intralogistics

Energy-efficient, future-oriented and sustainable

Jungheinrich WMS with a flexible interface to existing host system

Hamburg/Eisenbach – August Weckermann, the traditional premium manufacturer of turned, milled and precision components, is expanding and building a new production facility at its company site in Eisenbach, Baden-Württemberg. Here, the company wants to move decisively closer to the "Green Factory" through a modern energy concept. In order to optimize the flow of materials in the long term, August Weckermann has ordered an automated small parts warehouse (AS/RS) from Jungheinrich. Turnkey handover is scheduled for summer 2023.

The single-aisle miniload warehouse has more than 10,000 storage locations and is equipped with picking workstations at the front and on the long side of the racking. The 60 x 4.2 x 7.3 meter warehouse will be operated five days a week in the future. Even in single-shift operation, Jungheinrich's automation solution is proving to be the most efficient option. "Our offer was convincing in terms of process speed, capacity and energy efficiency," says Claus Bode, Project Manager ASRS at Jungheinrich. The scope of delivery of the overall solution also includes the Jungheinrich Warehouse Management System (WMS), which will be integrated into August Weckermann's existing IT environment. The flexible connectivity of the WMS to the existing host system was of key importance when the contract was awarded. "Jungheinrich showed us various scenarios for the interface connection in advance and provided us with flexible and open-ended advice," explains Jens Schuler, project manager at August Weckermann. "In the end, we were convinced by the fully comprehensive WMS for warehouse management."

For the long-established company August Weckermann, which had previously only used automatic warehouse lifts for small parts at various points along the production line, the new miniload represents an important step towards automation, and Jungheinrich is the right partner to accompany this step. "Jungheinrich has the right automation solutions in its portfolio for every size of company. We deliver exactly the intralogistics our customers need – turnkey and everything from a single source," emphasizes Bode.
